Transfeminism
Transfeminism – is, first and foremost, a movement of trans women who believe that their liberation is inseparably connected with the liberation of all women and others.
Transfeminism incorporates all the major themes of third-wave feminism, including diversity, body image, self-determination, and women’s agency.
Transfeminism is also open to queer people, intersex people, trans men, non-trans women, non-trans men, and others who are sympathetic to the needs of trans women and who regard their alliance with trans women as necessary for their own liberation.
The term transfeminism was first used in print in 1997 by Patrick Califia in the United States.
The main principles of transfeminism include:
- the right to define one’s own identity;
- the right to full physical autonomy;
- the right not to be coerced into making decisions in order to be recognized as a “real” woman or a “real” man.
