Homosexualism
Homosexualism – a stigmatizing and non-neutral term used to refer to homosexuality, same-sex relationships, or same-sex attraction. The word is problematic because it may present sexual orientation as an ideology, doctrine, deviation, or defective condition rather than as a dimension of human sexuality.
The term is often used to discredit, pathologize, insult, or morally condemn LGBTQ+ people, although it may also appear through linguistic habit or lack of awareness. It is not considered appropriate in contemporary academic, human-rights, or inclusive discourse and is not commonly used as a self-designation by LGBTQ+ communities.
More neutral and accurate alternatives include homosexuality, same-sex attraction, same-sex relationships, or, depending on the context, gay and lesbian identities.
