Emancipation
Emancipation – from the Latin emancipatio, originally referring to the release of a child from paternal authority – liberation from dependence, subordination, or legal and social restrictions, and the attainment of equal rights and greater autonomy.
In gender and feminist contexts, emancipation refers particularly to the process through which women and other subordinated groups gain equal civil, political, economic, social, and personal rights and opportunities.
