Gender Deprivation

Gender Deprivation / Gender-Based Deprivation – the restriction of opportunities to satisfy individual or group needs as a result of gender stereotypes and relations of domination.

Gender deprivation arises from a disparity between people’s needs and their actual opportunities to meet them, which depend on the positions occupied by women and men within the social structure.

The lower the capacity of the social sphere and the responsiveness of social policy – that is, its ability to reconcile the interests and needs of gender groups with broader social interests – the higher the level of gender deprivation.
