Heterosexism
Heterosexism – a system of beliefs, attitudes, and practices that privileges heterosexuality and disregards or devalues sexual experiences, identities, and ways of life other than heterosexuality.
Heterosexism may manifest itself in prejudice against and discriminatory practices toward people with non-heterosexual sexual orientations.
Heterosexism is based on the belief that heterosexuality is the only natural, moral, and socially acceptable form of human sexuality. It is important to note that not all heterosexual people adhere to such a system of beliefs; heterosexuality in itself does not imply heterosexism.
