Identity
Identity – a person’s sense of continuity, integrity, and relative sameness over time, through which they understand who they are, distinguish themselves from others, and recognize their belonging to particular social and cultural groups.
Identity enables a person to perceive both their similarities with other people and their own uniqueness. It is formed through the interaction of psychological experience, personal biography, bodily existence, social relations, cultural meanings, and recognition by others.
Identity is not a fixed collection of characteristics but a dynamic and reflexive understanding of the self that may change over the course of life while retaining a degree of continuity.
