Bigender
Bigender – from the prefix bi-, meaning “two,” and the English word gender – a gender identity in which a person identifies with two genders, either simultaneously or alternately.
A bigender person may, for example, identify as both a woman and a man, or as one of these genders and another gender, regardless of the sex assigned to them at birth. The relative prominence of these gender identities may remain stable or change over time and in different contexts. However, such changes are not necessarily determined by mood, the identity of the person with whom one is interacting, or the surrounding circumstances.
Bigender identity should not be confused with dissociative identity disorder or with a “split personality.” A bigender person has a single, integrated personality; the term refers to their gender identity rather than to the existence of multiple personalities.
Bigender identity is not in itself a form of gender dysphoria. Some bigender people may experience gender dysphoria, while others may not.
Bigender identity does not determine sexual orientation. A bigender person may have any sexual orientation.
