Gynecocracy

Gynecocracy – also spelled gynaecocracy – is an archaic term associated with Johann Jakob Bachofen’s theory of mother right and female rule. In contemporary scholarship, the term is rarely used as an independent analytical category and is generally treated as a historical or terminological equivalent of matriarchy.
