Harassment
Harassment – a form of discrimination that includes any unwanted and intrusive physical or verbal conduct that offends, humiliates, degrades a person, or violates their privacy and personal integrity. In other words, harassment consists of repeated and persistent actions directed at a person with the aim or effect of distressing them, devaluing them, undermining their authority in the eyes of others, or provoking a reaction.
Serious one-time incidents may also, in some cases, be regarded as harassment.
It is important to note that harassment is not limited to sexual harassment. It may also include unwanted comments, gestures, facial expressions, or jokes concerning race, nationality, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, or other characteristics that may serve as grounds for discrimination; threats or intimidation based on race, nationality, religion, sex, disability, or other protected characteristics; and unwanted physical contact, such as patting or pinching.
Both women and men may be targets of harassment.
