Misogynoir
Misogynoir — a portmanteau formed from the words “misogyny”, meaning hatred of women, and the French word “noir”, meaning “black.” The term refers to a specific form of misogyny directed at Black women, in which sexism and anti-Black racism intersect.
The term misogynoir was introduced by Black queer feminist scholar Moya Bailey to describe the specific forms of racialized sexism experienced by Black women. It also challenges the idea of feminism as a universal category, since, from the perspective of Black feminist thought, mainstream feminism has often been based primarily on the experiences of white women.
Whereas white women may experience discrimination largely on the basis of gender, Black women are subjected to overlapping forms of oppression, including racism, misogyny, and colorism (Boom, 2015).
