Gender Regime
Gender regime – a specific configuration of gender relations within a particular institution, organization, or social sphere.
A gender regime includes the distribution of power, labour, responsibilities, rights, opportunities, norms of masculinity and femininity, forms of recognition, and everyday practices that shape the positions of women and men, as well as other gendered positions, within a given institutional context.
The term is closely connected with R. W. Connell’s theory of gender relations. Unlike gender order, which refers to the broader society-wide organization of gender relations, gender regime refers to the gender pattern operating within a specific institution or field.
