Outing

Outing – the disclosure of information about another person’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or LGBTQ+ status without that person’s consent.

Outing is a serious violation of privacy and personal autonomy. It may have severe social, professional, and personal consequences for the person whose private information is disclosed, including the loss of employment, housing, family support, friendships, and, in some contexts, exposure to threats to their life, health, or safety.
