Sticky Floor

Sticky floor – a term indicating that women, compared with men, remain longer in entry-level positions within the occupational hierarchy.

At the early stages of a career, men move more quickly to the next steps of the career ladder, while young women often remain for a long time at the initial stages of their professional path. Men’s faster career start subsequently enables them to accumulate the necessary professional and managerial experience and, in this way, allows them to outpace women in occupying senior leadership positions. This, in turn, leads to the situation known as the glass ceiling.
