Gender-Equal Society
Gender-equal society – a society in which women and men, as equal partners, have equal opportunities and chances to participate voluntarily in all spheres of social life, enjoy equal political, economic, social, and cultural rights and freedoms, and share duties and responsibilities on an equal basis (Melnyk, 2004, p. 234).
Such a society is based on the principle that rights, opportunities, and responsibilities should not be determined by gender. Gender equality does not require women and men to perform identical roles but ensures their equal freedom to make choices, participate in social activities, and realize their potential without gender-based restrictions.
