Gender Blindness
Gender blindness – a metaphor referring to the failure to take the gender dimension into account or to the unreflective disregard of gender-related issues in the development of political and social programmes, academic research, educational and awareness-raising materials, and other forms of policy, knowledge production, and communication.
For example, a study of the lives of older people in Ukraine may be considered gender-blind if it fails to take into account that most older men live with their wives, whereas older women are considerably more likely to live alone.
Gender blindness may result in policies or research that appear formally neutral but fail to recognize gender-specific experiences, needs, inequalities, and social consequences.
