Gender-Role Stress
Gender-role stress – psychological strain, anxiety, shame, or internal conflict that arises when a person feels unable to meet culturally prescribed expectations associated with their gender role or when their behaviour, identity, or personal characteristics conflict with those expectations.
Gender-role stress may be intensified by fear of social disapproval, exclusion, discrimination, or loss of status resulting from perceived nonconformity with prevailing norms of masculinity or femininity.
