Gender Segregation of Labour
Gender segregation of labour – the uneven distribution of women and men in the economy, as a result of which either women or men predominate in particular professions or in particular economic sectors.
Gender segregation of labour may be vertical or horizontal.
Vertical gender segregation of labour is the unequal distribution of women and men at different levels within the same profession. It is associated with the phenomenon of the glass ceiling.
Horizontal gender segregation of labour is the unequal distribution of women and men across different professions or fields of employment. It is associated with the phenomenon of glass walls.
