Gender Equalization
Gender equalization – the development by political actors of a system of evidence-based measures and the implementation of corresponding policies and actions aimed at reducing specific forms of gender discrimination and gender-based restrictions in society, including in workplaces, employment relations, and the family, in order to advance gender equality in access to resources and participation.
Gender equalization policies may be designed for specific policy time frames and may pursue short-, medium-, or long-term objectives, depending on the level of gender equality achieved in a society and the gender disparities that persist within it.
The state plays a particularly important role in this process. On the basis of gender analysis and assessment across different spheres of social life, public institutions should develop mechanisms for monitoring gender-related changes, reducing gender disparities, and evaluating progress in the implementation of gender-equality policies.
A policy of gender equalization involves integrating a gender perspective into all spheres of public life. This requires gender considerations to be systematically incorporated into policymaking and decision-making processes (Melnyk, 2004, p. 222).
